    The availability of free, safe water for all student and staff in BPS is integral to the mission of the district in supporting healthy habits. Over the last year we have been proactively moving forward to address the topic of improved access to water, institute a transparent plan for ensuring ongoing assessment and reporting of water quality, and make sure that all students in Boston have access to quality potable drinking water in accordance with state and federal law. As we presented to the School Committee on April 13, 2016, we planned to do this by;

    Step 1
    Step 2
    Step 3
    Step 4

    “I have been in contact with colleagues from the Boston Public Schools and am confident that they are taking the necessary steps to assure that fountains will only be activated after all appropriate tests confirm that the lead levels of all active fountains are below the action level. I will continue to work with BPS and provide guidance as they move forward with their plan."

    John Sullivan, Chief Engineer and Operations Officer, Boston Water & Sewer Commission
     Tommy Chang Headshot
    "All active water fountains were tested in April, and the results have been triple verified by Boston Public Schools, Boston Water & Sewer Commission and a third-party contractor. There is nothing more important than the health and well-being of our students and staff."
    - Tommy Chang, Superintendent, Boston Public School
