Parent University

Our Mission

Parent U

Welcome, families! Parent University—launched in 2009 as the district’s primary strategy for engaging parents in their children’s education—educates and empowers parents as partners, advocates, leaders, lifelong learners, and their children’s first teachers. Through year-round courses and leadership training, we equip families to work alongside schools and district leaders so every child has access to a high-quality education.

Our Team

HANNA STUART-SHOR
Family Education Coordinator

Hanna Stuart-Shor Headshot

I am honored to join the team as a Family Education Coordinator. For the past 11 years, I served as a second-grade teacher at a charter school in Boston, where I dedicated my work to fostering strong partnerships with students and their families. Throughout my teaching career, I prioritized collaboration with parents as essential to supporting both academic progress and positive student development.

As a former Boston Public Schools student and the mother of three children, including two who are current BPS students, I bring both personal and professional commitment to this work. My goal in this role is to strengthen family engagement by providing resources, guidance, and meaningful opportunities for collaboration, ensuring families feel empowered as lifelong partners in their children’s education. I look forward to contributing to the continued success of the Family & School Engagement Practice Team.

CARMEN VEGA
Family Education Coordinator

Founding ParentU member and veteran K–12 educator, Carmen Vega has spent over two decades uniting schools and families across Boston. She designs practical, welcoming programs that empower parents as advocates and partners, making family voice central to student success in the BPS community.
