Boston Public Schools (BPS) is excited to welcome our students and families to the new school year and celebrate the beginning of another year of learning and enriching opportunities. Back-to-School Webinar with Superintendent Mary Skipper

The 2025 Back-to-School Webinar with Superintendent Mary Skipper was held on August 19 and featured updates about the upcoming school year. The Office of Specialized Services, the Office of Multilingual and Multicultural Education, the Food and Nutrition Services Teams, and many more central office departments shared updates about their preparations to help schools welcome students on the first day of school.

  • All incoming Kindergarten students and families

Complete Annual Back-to-School Forms

The annual forms provide schools and the district with important information. This year, several of the annual forms have been added to ParentSquare. School Leaders will share more information via ParentSquare on how to complete some of the 2025-2026 forms.
 
Gathering student contact information, custody/legal issues, health screening, and important medical information will continue to be facilitated at the school level through paper forms, will be available soon in the major BPS languages.

Boston Public Schools Helpline

The BPS Helpline can help students and families with questions in advance of the first day of school.

The Helpline can provide families with support in the following areas as students and families prepare for the first day of school.

Transportation

The Boston Public Schools Department of Transportation is ready to help students and families as the first day of school approaches.

  • Transportation Hotline: The Transportation Hotline is open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. at 617-635-9520.
     
  • Zum: Parents/caregivers will receive their student’s bus assignment and can track their student’s bus by downloading the Zum App
     
  • MBTA M7 Passes for Grades 7-12 Students: All BPS students in grades 7 through 12 will receive an MBTA M7 pass on the first day of school to ride MBTA trains, buses, and the Commuter Rail at free or reduced fares.  

If a student requires a replacement pass, a parent or guardian can contact the Transportation Department at 617-635-9520 or submit a request through the support portal to schedule an appointment for pickup, while supplies last. Please note that parents will need to present a valid ID when picking up the replacement pass.

School Meals - BPS Eats

BPS Eats is local, healthy, and fresh foods for our students. All BPS students have access to free breakfast, lunch and after school meals.

District Communications

ParentSquare

BPS has partnered with ParentSquare, a school-to-home communication system designed to keep parents and guardians informed and encourage greater engagement and connection with BPS.

  • Receive messages from the school and district via email, text, or app notification;
  • Choose when information is received; Select preferred language;
  • Receive report cards and progress reports;
  • and Much more!

BPS Beyond the Bell Weekly Newsletter

The BPS Beyond the Bell newsletter is the district’s primary method of communication with parents, caregivers, and staff. The weekly newsletter will contain key information and updates from the district and will be shared every Monday at 5 p.m., with Special Editions published on Thursdays.
