Welcoming Practices Welcoming practices establish predictability and opportunities to apply the SEL competencies and practice the skills. By elevating identity, sharing voices, and listening to each other, students and educators become partners in creating an inclusive community. Welcoming practices must be developmentally appropriate, culturally sustaining and connect to students' learning and experience. When thoughtfully facilitated, and debriefed, welcoming practices strengthen SEL competencies and skills. |

Engaging Practices & “Brain Breaks” Engaging practices are brain compatible strategies that can foster: relationships, cultural humility and responsiveness, empowerment, and collaboration. They intentionally build SEL skills. These practices can also be opportunities for brain breaks that provide a space for integrating new information into long-term memory. (Otherwise, it is soon forgotten.) |
