Explanation of Heritage Spanish Language Cultural Connection for "LatinX Roots"
Heritage language is a term commonly used for a language spoken at home that is different from the main language spoken in a society. Heritage Spanish students are those who have been raised in Spanish-speaking homes in the United States and schooled, for the most part, in English.
LatinX Roots aims to cultivate Hispanic heritage and cultural values by helping students explore the Spanish language through music, liberal and performance art, sports, architecture, and food. Students will learn the language by focusing on cultural elements from our contemporary times and also from its history. At the end of each thematic unit, students will connect multicultural elements among different cultures to make sense of the intersectionality of our cultures and our contributions to today’s America.
