STATEMENT & RESOURCES FROM SUPERINTENDENT CASSELLIUS REGARDING RECENT GUN VIOLENCE
I am thinking of our students, families, and staff, particularly those of us who identify as Black, as we witness yet another mass killing rooted in racism. Gun violence is horrifying, whether it is local, at a Laguna Woods church, or in a Buffalo market. When it is motivated by racial hatred, it further breaks our spirits. As we strive to recover from the impacts of the pandemic – the loss of loved ones, months of isolation, housing instability, school staffing shortages, and so much more – instances of gun violence and racial hate are that much more devastating. For educators who may want to lead an age-appropriate discussion, this resource may be helpful.
