OCTOBER 1, 2021 – Loomis, Sayles & Company is proud to have partnered with The English High School on renovating two Social Emotional Learning rooms where students can access supportive services and programming provided by the school’s behavioral health staff.

Prior to the start of the school year, a group of employee volunteers from Loomis Sayles worked with staff at The English High School to transform two classrooms into bright, inviting spaces. The firm’s chairman and chief executive officer Kevin Charleston joined Boston Public Schools superintendent Brenda Cassellius and The English High School’s head of school Caitlin Murphy to formally open the new counseling rooms at a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, 30 September 2021.

The partnership with The English High School is part of Loomis Sayles’ Fuss Family Mental Health Initiative, a new campaign that celebrates the philanthropic focus of Dan Fuss, vice chairman of Loomis Sayles’ board of directors and a globally renowned fixed income investor who has been with the firm for 45 years. Dan and his family have worked tirelessly to support the mental health needs of young people in the wake of their son Tommy’s death by suicide 15 years ago this November. Loomis Sayles is highlighting the Fuss family’s efforts with a two-month campaign that includes corporate giving, matching of employee donations, volunteering and raising awareness about the mental health crisis engulfing young people in the most under-resourced areas of the cities in which we live and work.

“Young people in our community are facing enormous mental health challenges that have been compounded by the disruption of a global pandemic,” said Kevin Charleston, Loomis Sayles chairman and chief executive officer. “We are humbled by the opportunity to make a difference and hope that these rooms serve as safe and welcoming spaces for any student at The English High School in need of support.”

“I am grateful to the team at Loomis Sayles for their belief in our students and their work with The English High School,” said Superintendent Cassellius. “BPS has ensured our schools and staff have additional resources to provide social emotional support and connection for our students as a critical component of their return to full-time in-person learning. This new space will provide Ms. Murphy and her team with additional opportunities to build community and create meaningful, lasting relationships with students.”
