Boston Latin School Takes State Title Again on WGBH’s High School Quiz Show
For the second year in a row, Boston Latin School was crowned High School Quiz Show® State Champion, earning the top spot by defeating veteran competitor Belmont High School, with a score of 570 to 355 in the season finale on Saturday, May 16, 2020. In only their second appearance on the televised academic competition from Boston public media producer WGBH, Boston Latin School defeated 16 other Massachusetts High Schools that qualified for the show.
Hosted by local media personality Billy Costa, High School Quiz Show teams went head-to-head in a single-elimination bracketed tournament. Quickfire questions challenged the competitors to display their knowledge in a wide range of categories, including literature, math, history, current events and science.
Boston Latin School teammates Joseph (junior), Christy (senior), Ethan (junior) and Dante (senior) were coached by history teacher Andy Zou and mathematics teacher Theresa Cojohn. Their alternates were Alice (junior) and Kyler (freshman). (Surnames can be requested through school staff. Contact Emily Balk for more information.)
