Interim Superintendent Shares Message Regarding Recent Acts of Violence Nationally

Dear Students, Families and Employees of the Boston Public Schools:

The Boston Public Schools (BPS) would like to communicate our commitment to and support for all of our more than 56,000 students, their families, and our staff. News of violent acts across our nation, including the shootings in Pittsburgh and Kentucky, and the mailing of pipe bombs to numerous public figures, compel us to not only ensure our safety, but to communicate that we treasure each member of the BPS community: young people and adults of an extraordinary array of religious, racial, ethnic, sexual orientation, gender, and other identities who are unique and invaluable contributors to our schools and offices.

Especially today, in light of the recent bias-based violence, including acts of anti-Semitic, racist, sexist, and anti-immigrant hatred, I encourage you to check in with the students, parents, and staff you interact with to ask how they are doing. We have shared educational resources with our school leaders, and provide below contact information for extra supports for our students and families. Thank you to each of you -- each student, family member, and staff member -- for your daily efforts to cherish one another and every member of your school and work community. We stand together to create welcoming and sustaining classrooms for every young person in our city.
