Salsify
Local technology company, Salsify launched a STEM education program to help expose Boston Public School students to careers in their field. Salsify created this opportunity to help increase diversity and to build a strong pipeline of local STEM workers.
To date, sixth grade students from three BPS schools have visited Salsify’s office to take part in problem solving activities and mock-app development. South Boston’s Perry K-8 School, Dorchester’s TechBoston Academy, and most recently, the Umana Academy where bilingual Salsify employees encouraged students to work and present in the language they felt most comfortable with. The students pitched their apps in a “Shark Tank” style competition.
Salsify is opening doors to that students can see the possibilities in STEM careers. The company recognizes there are barriers to women and minorities pursuing careers in technology and hope that early exposure will encourage the next generation of leaders in the field.
