Play to Learn Groups Key in Kindergarten Readiness and Beyond

 
A recent evaluation conducted on Playgroup participants from 2012-2015 show some promising results. BPS students who participated in the program through 3rd grade show greater gains in both DIBELS and MCAS. Across most demographic subgroups, the Playgroup population had a higher percentage of students receiving "Benchmark" on their K2 DIBELS assessment and a smaller percentage of students receiving "Below Benchmark" and "Well Below Benchmark" in comparison to the non Playgroup population. MCAS scores showed that a larger percentage of Playgroup participants scored "Proficient" and "Advanced" compared to the non Playgroup population. Similarly, a smaller percentage of students in Playgroup scored "Needs Improvement" and "Warning" compared to the non Playgroup population.
