  • Superintendent Cassellius Announces More Elementary Schools To Expand Next School Year

    After months of community conversations with parents, teachers, community leaders and school staff, Boston Public Schools (BPS) Superintendent Brenda Cassellius has announced that six additional schools will expand from serving grades Kindergarten through 5 to Kindergarten through 6 in September 2020 — one year earlier than previously scheduled — as part of an update to the BuildBPS educational and facilities master plan for the district.

  • Mayor Walsh, Superintendent Cassellius Celebrate New Higginson School Playground

    Mayor Walsh and Superintendent Cassellius joined City officials and BPS staff to celebrate the new playground at the Henry L. Higginson School in Roxbury on Tuesday, November 5. The new outdoor play space is the first BPS playground constructed with Community Preservation Act (CPA) funds, through a $500,000 grant recommended by Mayor Walsh in 2018.

  • Charlestown's Harvard-Kent Elementary Wins $100,000 EdVestors Award

    EdVestors, a school improvement organization in Boston, awarded its $100,000 Thomas W. Payzant School on the Move Prize to the Harvard-Kent Elementary School in Charlestown, a school that serves the largest population of students in public housing in the entire Boston Public School district. The Prize, now in its 14th year, recognizes rapidly-improving schools that have made exemplary progress in advancing the academic achievement of all students.
