BOSTON AWARDED $150,000 GRANT TO SUPPORT BOSFOODLOVE, HEALTHY MEALS FOR BOSTON PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS
On Thursday, January 25, Mayor Martin J. Walsh accepted a $150,000 grant that will benefit 57,000 Boston Public School (BPS) students, and support BPS's program BOSFoodLove. BOSFoodLove, a partnership between BPS's Food and Nutrition Services and the Mayor's Office of Food Access, will work to ensure each and every child receives healthy and delicious meals to fuel their school performance and success.

24 Boston Public Schools Students Receive Full-Tuition Posse Foundation Scholarships
Twenty-four Boston Public Schools (BPS) high-school students received the Posse Foundation Scholarship — a four-year, full-tuition scholarship — in a ceremony on Wednesday, January 17, with Governor Charlie Baker and BPS Superintendent Tommy Chang at the Fairmount Copley Plaza.

Extended Learning Time is Found to Have a Positive Impact on Student Achievement at District’s Schools
BOSTON — Friday, January 19, 2018 — Today, the Boston Public Schools (BPS) is releasing a recent research study showing that Extended Learning Time (ELT) has had a significant impact on improving student achievement for BPS students. Under the leadership of Mayor Martin J. Walsh and Superintendent Tommy Chang, the district, with additional funding from the City of Boston, invested $14 million this year to expand the school day to an additional 39 schools, allowing more than 15,000 students to benefit from extended learning time this school year.

On Tuesday January 16th the Eliot Innovation School welcomed hockey legend Willie O’Ree on stage for their morning assembly. Mr. O’Ree shared his story as the first black player in the National Hockey League, and reflected on the challenges that he faced to integrate the game of hockey.

On Thursday, January 18, 2018, Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh and Boston Public Schools (BPS) Superintendent Tommy Chang joined leaders of United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley, Boston After School & Beyond and community-based organizations to announce a significant expansion of BoSTEM, a city-wide initiative aimed at increasing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) after-school programming for up to 10,000 students in grades 6-8 who are typically underrepresented in STEM learning and careers.
