About the Donald McKay K-8 School

  • Our Mission

We are passionate educators providing all of our students with expert instruction by implementing thematically planned units designed to meet the needs of every child.  We instill in our students the McKay School's Anchor Values of Respect, Effort, and Responsibility by supporting their Social Emotional and Character Development through Responsive Classrooms and explicit Social Emotional instruction.

Our core academic program is enhanced by certified interventionists in literacy and math. Students’ academic experiences are enhanced through participation in art, music, computer, physical education, theater, academic enrichment classes, and a wide variety of student-selected electives.

Students are empowered to become school leaders through the McKay School’s student government. Students play an active role in helping school leaders make important decisions affecting the McKay School community. Students are also frequently recognized for their contributions to the school through the Flying Cloud student recognition program.

We are a certified Family Friendly school based on our extensive efforts to involve parents through Monthly School Parent Council meetings, monthly Coffee Hours with the Principal, and an active School Site Council. We also offer families, Technology Goes Home, Families’ First Workshops, Family Literacy Programs, and Read Boston activities.
