The Office of Human Capital (OHC) is committed to ensuring that the Boston Public Schools attracts, develops and retains the highly skilled and motivated work-force required for effective teaching and learning in all of our school communities.
Our work covers four primary areas:
Recruitment
The OHC Recruitment team works to attract a qualified and diverse pool of candidates from which principals can hire. Their efforts range from participating in career fairs to developing a number of pathways to teaching with local universities.
Hiring & Staffing
The OHC staffing managers work year-round to hire and staff both BPS central office and BPS schools. They work closely with principals and school administrators to ensure that teachers are licensed and classrooms are appropriately staffed.
Professional Development & Performance Evaluation
OHC also works closely with staff to ensure continual professional growth through various professional development opportunities so that teachers, like their students, always have the opportunity to grow. In addition, OHC also monitors educator effectiveness required by the state's new evaluation system.
Information Records & Management
A dedicated OHC team keeps employees' records updated, which includes processing changes in employee status (e.g. leaves of absences, retirements, and resignations).
Non-Discrimination Policy
The Boston Public Schools does not discriminate in its programs, activities, facilities, employment, or educational opportunities on the basis of race, color, age, disability, sex/gender, gender identity, religious beliefs, national origin, ancestry, retaliation, sexual orientation, genetics or military status and does not tolerate any form of discrimination, intimidation, threat, coercion, and/or harassment that insults the dignity of others by interfering with their freedom to learn and work.
