Non-BPS Transportation and Enrollment Information

Boston Public Schools (BPS) collaborates with Charter, Private, and Parochial schools, collectively referred to as Non-BPS Schools, to ensure eligible Boston students receive transportation services.

Non-BPS schools work closely with their assigned Transportation Officers and our Non-BPS Data Coordinator to ensure all student information and communication are handled efficiently.

Key Information for Families

Updating Information:

It is the responsibility of Non-BPS schools to provide and update enrollment roster information with BPS. Because these updates must come through official school processes, we are unable to accept enrollment information directly from families.

If your child's information changes during the school year, please contact your child's school directly to ensure they update your information with BPS. BPS cannot update Non-BPS student information independently.

Enrollment & Transfer Forms:

If your student is attending a BPS, Charter, Private or Parochial school, you must fill out the BPS Enrollment Notice Form. This form grants approval to remove your student from their previous school and assign them to their new one.

You can obtain this form directly from your student’s new school or download it here.

Once completed, submit the form to your student’s new school. They will submit it along with the necessary documentation to enroll your student in the BPS system.

Transportation Eligibility:

Transportation will be assigned based on the students' eligibility and their IEP/504 plan. For more information on Transportation eligibility, click here

Private/Parochial School Eligibility Zones:

Students must be living and attending school within the same private/parochial zone in addition to meeting age and mileage requirements in order to receive yellow bus services. Please note that families must submit a request for transportation through their private/parochial school in order to be assigned to a bus. Private/parochial school staff are responsible for submitting these requests to BPS Transportation.

Please refer to this list to determine which private/parochial zone your school is in.

Please refer to this map to determine which zone your residence is in.

Key Information for Non-BPS School Staff

Enrollment Processes & Timeline

BPS Transportation communicates directly with non-BPS school staff to coordinate roster updates. Please email nonbpsenrollment@bostonpublicschools.com to update your school’s enrollment contact information if you do not have the links to the forms mentioned below.

  1. Year - Round:
    • Transportation Change/Request Form for individual student changes open for submissions by non-BPS school staff
      • A new form link is sent out annually in mid-June to all non-BPS enrollment contacts.
    • IEP/504 Plan Upload Form open for submissions by charter school staff
  2. April - June:
    • Current roster review and bulk roster processing for the upcoming school year

Students submitted to BPS Transportation after July 15 are unlikely to be routed or receive T passes for the first day of school. Submissions are processed in the order they are received. During peak enrollment and state reporting times, processing times vary significantly based on the volume of submissions received across all non-BPS schools.
