Title IX Compliance

What is Title IX?

Title IX is a federal law that prohibits discrimination based on sex (gender). Title IX states: No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.

What are the Procedures for Title IX Investigations?

The Grievance Procedure Guide for the OCR_GPG Title IX Sexual Harassment of Students are available in the 10 languages of the district.

The Title IX regulations governing the Boston Public Schools Title IX grievance process require the District acknowledge the legal rights of parents, guardians, and others legally authorized to act on behalf of their minor students (“parents/guardians”), including student complainants, student respondents, and other individuals, throughout the grievance process. They also allow each party to select an advisor of the party’s choice to accompany, advise, and assist the party with navigating the grievance process. The District does not restrict the right of each party to select an advisor with whom the party feels most comfortable and believes will best assist the party. You can find the Party, Advisor, and Parent Guardian Rights and Expectations document for download.
