Coronavirus Resources and Information

Boston Public Schools started the school year with all remote learning on September 21. We then welcomed students with High In-Person Priority on October 1. Approximately 1,300 students are attending schools on a daily basis. For more information on our work to prepare buildings for in-person learning, the schedule for students returning to schools, and our health and safety protocols visit bpsready. Visit the Boston Public Health Commission for more information on the City of Boston's overall COVID rates.

BPHC Letter - October 7, 2020

BPHC letter
Dr. Brenda Cassellius, Superintendent
Boston Public Schools
Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building
2300 Washington Street, 5th Floor
Roxbury, Massachusetts 02119

October 7, 2020

Dear Superintendent,

Cassellius Today, the Boston Public Health Commission determined that schools can reopen and continue offering in-person learning to the high priority students with their teachers and other staff on site. We will continue to monitor the data and our Boston-specific metrics to assess if additional restrictions are needed or if the spread is too great to continue in-person education for the high priority students. It is important to remember that the 4% positivity rate metric is a conservative approach, lower than that advised by state, federal, and other agencies, and was established in the context of bringing back all students in the hybrid model.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you should have any questions or need additional guidance.

Sincerely,

Rita L. Nieves, RN, MPH, LICSW
Interim Executive Director
Boston Public Health Commission

Jennifer J. Lo, MD
