Boston Public Schools Citywide/Region VI Science and Engineering Fair

The Boston STEM Fair proudly stands as the Commonwealth’s oldest science competition, celebrating decades of inspiring students to explore, innovate, and excel in STEM fields. Each year, we provide a platform for Boston’s youth to showcase their talents through a day filled with learning, competition, and community engagement. Students present their projects to STEM professionals, educators, scientists, and engineers for judging, participate in an interactive Science Fair Expo, and share their accomplishments during a public exhibition.

As the birthplace of public education in this nation, Boston Public Schools (BPS) is dedicated to transforming the lives of all children through exemplary teaching in a world-class system of innovative, welcoming schools. Central to this mission is our Science, Technology, and Engineering (STEM) Vision: Every BPS student at every grade engages in culturally affirming, high-quality science experiences. They will graduate to become critical and capable citizens who make informed decisions about the challenges that confront society. BPSSEF embodies this vision by fostering curiosity, creativity, and excellence among our diverse student population.

The Boston STEM Fair is also one of six regional fairs in the state. It serves as a critical stepping stone for students aspiring to advance in their STEM journeys. Through this fair, we aim to:

  • Sponsor students to participate in higher-level STEM fairs, including the State Fair and International Science & Engineering Fair.
  • Provide funds to students and schools for materials, scholarships, and opportunities for research and mentoring.
  • Build and strengthen partnerships with community organizations and higher education institutions.
  • Celebrate student achievements through an awards ceremony, with cash prizes, modest scholarships, and public recognition.

We accept student projects in science, engineering, computer science, and mathematics, creating a broad spectrum of opportunities for innovation and discovery. Our fair is one of Boston’s largest showcases of student talent, bringing together the city’s brightest minds and fostering connections with the STEM community.
