Dr. Simone Wright

Deputy Superintendent of Academics

Dr. Simone Wright joined Boston Public Schools (BPS) in January 2026 and currently serves as Deputy Superintendent for Academics.

Most recently, Dr. Wright served as Chief Academic Officer of the Denver Public Schools (DPS) in Denver, Colorado where DPS students achieved notable increases in Math and Literacy achievement, including the highest Math Achievement performance on the state assessment in DPS history. Under Dr. Wright’s leadership, DPS earned a green rating on the state accountability framework. She takes personal responsibility for ensuring that learning experiences across the district serve as catalysts to accelerate students' trajectories, with a specific focus on historically underserved and underestimated students.

Prior to her appointment as Chief Academic Officer at DPS, she served as Executive Director of Universal School Supports and as Associate Chief of Academics. Before joining DPS, Dr. Wright served as a Special Advisor in the Chief Academic Office at the New York City Department of Education where she spearheaded an ambitious curriculum reform effort and played a crucial role in shaping the system's long-term goals for teaching and learning.

Dr. Wright's perspective on the purpose of education solidified during her transformative experiences in Houston, Texas. She served as a high school chemistry teacher and held various instructional leadership roles across the city. Her most notable achievement was leading an underperforming school to receive the state's highest accountability rating, a first for any campus in the northeast Houston community. These experiences deepened her understanding of the strengths and challenges in urban education settings while fueling her desire to lead systematic change.

Dr. Wright received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and a doctorate from Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Dr. Wright believes that each student's educational experience should be a catalyst to equip them with the skills and mindsets to write their own success narrative. I am confident that she will elevate the work that we have undertaken to ensure that all students have access to the rigorous academic experience that they deserve.
