Chris McKinnon

Chief of Communications

Chris McKinnon is the Chief of Communications for Boston Public Schools. McKinnon came to the district after serving as spokesperson for Eversource Energy, where he developed and delivered key communications to the company’s 1.4 million customers in Massachusetts and other stakeholder groups. Through a comprehensive public relations strategy and utilizing various media channels, McKinnon helped the energy company and executive leadership successfully highlight crucial company initiatives, like innovative projects to drive a clean energy transition in the region, ultimately driving positive coverage and engagement.

Prior to that, he spent more than a decade as a morning news anchor and reporter in his hometown of Boston, as well as Oklahoma City and Colorado. He brings a wealth of experience in creative and strategic storytelling to increase brand recognition and viewer connection. While in Boston, he helped launch an original storytelling series that differentiated the station and reinforced WBZ-TV’s local connection with viewers.

Chris is passionate about making a difference in the lives of BPS students and families, and looks forward to sharing the important work being done each day inside the district’s classrooms.

In his new role, Chris will oversee the Communications team for the district and will be the lead Senior Advisor and spokesperson for the district, while also serving as the lead liaison to the Mayor’s Press Office. Chris will be located on the fifth floor at the Bolling Building.
