LTFP Data Dashboard

We assessed the physical spaces in each Boston Public School building to understand whether each school facility currently supports the BPS High-Quality Student Experience. Higher scores indicate that the building supports more components of the High-Quality Student Experience. In the dashboard below, you can explore overall Building Experience Score data by school and by neighborhood.

Many of our school buildings are too small or outdated to fully support the High-Quality Student Experience – even with major investments. We also assessed which of our school buildings or sites could fit a Model Space Summary through a new build, expansion, or gut renovation. You can also see which of our school buildings or sites could fit a Model Space Summary in the future.

Additional metrics that BPS utilizes in the development of capital planning proposals are outlined in a spreadsheet below. This data is used holistically as we take into account the whole BPS ecosystem.

Data Framework & Decision-Making Data

In May of 2024, BPS released an update to the Long Term Facilities Plan. In that report, we shared the data framework we are using in the decision making process to develop capital planning proposals. We have evaluated all BPS schools using this framework and have collected data in the spreadsheet available below.

Interactive Maps: BPS Schools

This interactive map shows the schools in BPS and student population densities. When you hover over a school, you will see information about that school such as the Building Experience Score, any feasible model space summaries, the capacity of the building, the enrollment of the school and the utilization rate.

In the legend, the toggle switch allows you to see the BPS student population densities around the city. Light blue squares represent less densely populated areas while red squares represent the most densely populated areas.

Educational Adequacy Report

As part of the School Design Study, the evaluation of the potential of the BPS physical footprint to support this High-Quality Student Experience (HQSE) is critical. Educational Adequacy assessments are a tool to evaluate the current ability of buildings to deliver on the BPS HQSE.
