    Welcome to the Sumner School!

Navigating a new school and new school district can get overwhelming, so we have tried to capture some of the most useful information to make it a bit easier to find. We also have letters from current Sumner School parents with children entering K1, K2, or older grades for the 2022-2023 school year.  They can serve as a point of contact to help you navigate your new school community. Our school Family Liaison, Erin O'Brien (se habla español) is also a wonderful resource (eobrien3@bostonpublicschools.org, 781-572-7496). Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions you might have.

Helpful information to get you started:

Communications and Engagement: Communications from the Sumner School and district can come via different platforms.  Below are three of the most used platforms used by our school community. You can always reach out to your homeroom teacher for more information.

Class Dojo: a web-based and mobile device app that many teachers at the school use to communicate with families including pictures of classroom activities and other updates.  There is also a "School Story" in which staff and family council can broadcast announcements to the whole school.  Please follow  this link for step-by-step instructions on how to get started on Class Dojo.

School Messenger: The Sumner School and Boston Public Schools District uses the SchoolMessenger app to broadcast messages through phone, email, and text messaging. Families can use the "Infocenter" to manage your communication preferences and read previous messages. For more information and to get started with the School Messenger app, please visit this page.

Sumner Families Facebook group: Sumner School families and some staff have formed a private Facebook group to share resources and ask any questions as they come up.  To join the group, please visit: https://www.facebook.com/groups/SumnerSchoolParents/

Before and After School Programming: The Sumner Before & After School Program is an in-house program for K1 thru 6th grades (including our 4-year old students!). The Before School Program operates from 7:00 am until the start of the school day and the After School Program operates from the end of the school day until 5:45 pm. Families can sign-up for as many days per week as are needed. The fee structure for the 2022-23 school year is still being finalized but a possible scale (full and reduced price options based on need) is as follows:
