• Designed in partnership with the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC), BPS has been implementing a series of surge protocols in schools to manage this more recent uptick in COVID-19 cases in our community and our schools. This included looking at three key factors in schools: health and safety, staffing, and operations.

A team made up of BPHC and BPS departments of the office of the superintendent, academics, operations, and data & accountability have been meeting at least twice daily to review all incoming data and make determinations about coverage for schools when there are staff absences, quarantine decisions if there are rising cases in schools and additional support as needed.

How are we meeting the staffing needs of school each day?

    • 7 am - Start of day check-in to surface any new needs from overnight
    • Morning - Schools report anticipated vacancies for the next day; Data is monitored as submitted
    • Mid-day - District staff does initial data review for the following day
    • 4:30 pm - End of school day data review with district staff and School Superintendents
    • Evening/9 pm - Decision on district staff deployment and assignment of staff
