Each page includes a description of the data that is included and provides context for the information. The data can be viewed for the whole district or by a school and reported by a student group, neighborhood, and other categories. We are sharing this information with the goal of increasing transparency and access to data for our families, staff, and the community.
The dashboard does not capture the richness of online instruction or other ways our teachers are engaging our students remotely or in-person. It captures a moment in time but cannot provide the full picture of student engagement and learning. BPS uses the data to identify trends and direct support and services in situations where attendance or engagement is low. In addition to this dashboard, each school has a more detailed dashboard that provides information on specific students which will not be shared publicly.
William Monroe Trotter K-8
City of Boston Resiliency Fund grantee Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (Boston Alumnae Chapter) and its community partner, The Boston Delta Foundation, together provided a grant of $19,000 for the purchase of Target gift cards. The Boston Alumnae Chapter chose the William Monroe Trotter Elementary School in Dorchester as a recipient of the gift cards and toys for holiday distribution. The members of Delta Sigma Theta met with Principal Sarita Thomas, who provided gifts and holiday cheer to students and families ahead of Christmas break.

Margarita Muniz Academy
The Muñiz Academy community has used different strategies to engage students and families throughout remote learning.
Crews have been a key structure and source of community building at Muñiz Academy for many years. During remote learning, Crews became even more important. Each teacher mentors 10 to 12 students for the year on their grade team. Crews participate in a variety of community-building activities, engage in academic support. Crews use Restorative Justice circles as a key ingredient to build community, address trauma, and reflect on important school and civic events.
Muniz Academy has also found a way to keep students civically engaged through online student-body elections; which have yielded an 80% student participation rate. Teachers have organized office hours to engage students and parents in need of additional instruction and support. Teachers and students organize their meeting times for small groups or individual additional instruction and coaching. The Muñiz Academy Family Liaison Team has also focused on engaging families, serving as a multi-purpose resource center. They coordinate food services, housing, mental health services, and clothing assistance for families who may need additional assistance due to income and trauma-related issues stemming from the pandemic. To keep high needs students a priority, the Special Education team has met 100% compliance with all of their students’ Individualized Education Plans.
Rafael Hernandez K-8
When the Rafael Hernández K-8 Dual-Language School closed in response to the pandemic on March 17, 2020, Principal Ana Carolina Brito and her staff emptied their shelves and gave the school's common collection of books to their students. Their goal was to fill the gap between school closing and students receiving the technology they needed for remote learning. In August, the Boston Book Festival awarded the Shelf Help grant to the Hernández school to help replenish their bookshelves. Since then, Brito and her team have seen an amazing outpouring of support from the community, including donations of books, school supplies, and laptops. Books donations came not only from the school community but also from people outside the City of Boston. Brito says she was incredibly moved by the kindness of strangers, and her team is excited to continue supplying students with books, especially dual-language books.

Donald McKay K-8
Teachers have assembled a student support team that meets regularly to create initiatives to help and support students and their families in the East Boston community. This group continues to track how their students are being affected by the pandemic to not only support them through these uncertain times but to also strengthen the bonds that many students and families have with the school. The student support group at the McKay school plays a big role in impacting the East Boston Community and its students by delivering food, maintaining communication through translation and interpretation teams, and other projects. The group has also partnered with organizations in the community like Eastie Farms and the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center to reinforce support.
Paul A. Dever Elementary
A Family Engagement event supported by the Transportation Department led to a large Boston public school bus with school supplies for Dever Elementary students in November. Principal Mrs. Reardon, the CFC Ms. Chew, Strand Specialist Rachel McDougall and Director of Instruction Lynn Connor, together loaded the bus. Once loaded, they distributed the supplies at the following meal distribution sites: Lee Academy, Boston Latin Academy, the Burke High School, and the final destination the Dever. Dever’s staff and partners were able to provide 66 families with school supplies and food and directed them to meal sites.
