The preparation and planning by Boston Public Schools followed guidance from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Schools which released guidance in mid-June.
The guidelines included:
- The safe return of as many students as possible to school buildings
- A set of health and safety requirements for learning in schools, grounded in the most up-to-date scientific literature with expert medical advisors
- A reopening plan that addresses three options available to districts, which are in-school learning, at-home learning, and a combination of the two
