School Site Council

  • The Sumner School Site Council is a governing or advisory body that is comprised of equal voting members of parents and staff. The School Site Council includes representation from school administration, staff, parents, and the community. All members of the Sumner community are invited to attend meetings and be part of the discussion. The Site Council meets once a month to review
 and
 approve
 school
 policy, 
including
 but
 not
 limited 
to: Family Engagement Plan, Quality School Improvement Plan (QSIP), school budget, reviews curriculum, forms personnel subcommittees for hiring and decide on general school policies.

    Current members of the Sumner School SSC include: Meghan Welch (principal; SSC chair), Patricia Cartwright (BTU rep), Diana Fortin (BTU rep), Diana Ainsley Paul (BTU rep), Adriana Snow (BTU rep), Irischa Valentin (BTU rep), Stephanie Golas (parent rep), Eleana Gonzalez (parent rep), Amanda Lukens (parent rep), Matt McCloskey (parent rep), Sean O'Brien (parent alternate rep), Nicol Riley (parent rep), Mae Tobin-Hochstadt (parent rep), and Jared VerBerkmoes (parent alternate rep).

    Meetings are held in hybrid format (in person at the Sumner Lower School and via zoom) unless otherwise noted. Meeting dates for the 2024-2025 school year are to be determined and will include joint SSC sessions as well as community forums with the Philbrick School as we plan for our merged school community for the 2025-2026 school year.

    A rough outline of our meeting schedule for the 2024-25 school year is as follows:

    September 2024

    • School specific (separate Sumner or Philbrick) SSC meeting to work on school specific business

    October 2024

    • Joint Philbrick-Sumner SSC meeting - In Person
    • Possible additional (separate) meeting for School Specific Business 
    • Joint Hearing for School Renaming - in person

    November 2024

    • Joint SSC meeting (with 1 hour allotted for joint discussion and 1 hour allotted for separate school specific discussion) - Virtual
    • Joint Hearing for School Renaming - in person 

    December 2024

    • Joint SSC meeting (with 1 hour allotted for joint discussion and 1 hour allotted for separate school specific discussion) - Virtual

    January 2025

    • Joint SSC meeting (2 hours together) - In person

    February 2025
