BPS provides district-wide access for the tools listed below.
Apple
Apple is used in our classrooms, with teachers having access to Macbooks and students having varying access to iOS and macOS devices. BPS managed iPads use Self Service to get their applications.
Bookshare
Bookshare provides access to thousands of publications in digital format for users with print disabilities. In order to use Bookshare, a user must qualify. View the Bookshare qualifying categories.
Contact Scott Richards on the BPS Assistive Technology Team to have an account created for you within 48 hours. Once created, the user will receive an email from Bookshare to manually enter their BPS Gmail and their chosen password to sign in to the Bookshare website.
Clever
Clever is a portal of teacher-approved applications that students and educators can use in the classroom. It is a secure portal with a single sign-on for everyone in the district where you can customize student access to applications (free and licensed) in one place.
Learning Ally
Learning Ally is an online tool that provides access to a library of audiobooks for students who need this support with reading.
Available for BPS teachers and students. If you are interested in accessing Learning Ally, we recommend that you take the BPS Learns online course. BPS staff login with 6-digit BPS ID & BPS Gmail password and self-enroll in the Learning Ally course
GoGuardian For Teachers
GoGuardian For Teachers provides Chromebook management solutions that keep students safer online and make teaching easier. Teachers can monitor what is on students' screens and support them with their learning.
Available for BPS teachers. If you are interested in a license for your classroom, log in to BPSLearns (learn.mybps.org) with your BPS ID and BPS Gmail password and complete the BPSLearns GoGuardian course.
Google Apps for Education
Boston Public Schools is a Google Apps for Education district, with access to many Google Apps for productivity, learning, and media creation.
Microsoft Office 365
Office 365 (online version) and Office 2016 (desktop version) are available for BPS teachers and students who prefer to use Office applications.
Read&Write for Google Chrome
Read&Write is a Chrome extension that supports reading and writing. This web-friendly toolbar offers options for text-to-speech, word prediction, speech to text, custom vocabulary lists, and more.
Available to use on devices with Chrome browsers. All BPS teachers and students with BPS emails can access this toolbar.
Sora by Overdrive
With Sora, students and teachers can borrow free ebooks and audiobooks from their school or public library.
