Raise Awareness

  • Before embarking on Safe Routes to School Boston, it is helpful to raise awareness among your school community (staff, families, students), involve your School Wellness Council and/or site councils, and develop a sustainable plan. Taking the time to evaluate your needs and resources will enable you to hold successful events and engage families.

When you invite others to “Join the Movement”, you are letting them know that the health and safety of all students is important, and that everyone can come together to make our streets more walkable. Here you will find links to promotional resources, along with walking tips sheets, posters, and brand templates. Classroom teachers can support student travel with simple lessons for the classroom. The Health and Wellness Department offers curriculum and professional development for Physical Education teachers who want to lead a unit on pedestrian safety with their elementary aged students.
