Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
The purpose of professional learning communities is to bring together and foster our expert community of ESL/SEI teachers in schools across BPS, share effective instructional practices that impact EL student learning, review and discuss current research in the field and reflect on how it can be applied to our classrooms. At the end of the PLC session, teachers share a final product that benefit students and/or teachers across BPS.

The RETELL initiative (Rethinking Equity in the Teaching of English Language Learners) represents a commitment to address the persistent gap in academic proficiency experienced by ELL students. At the heart of this initiative are training and licensure required for Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement, which core academic teachers of ELs and principals/assistant principals and supervisors/directors who supervise or evaluate such teachers must obtain.
