SERVING THE WHOLE CHILD
The Boston Public Schools aims to actively promote the social, emotional and physical health and wellness of all students to advance both their healthy development and readiness to learn. BPS strives to be one of the healthiest school districts in the country.
The Health and Wellness Office leads the district’s efforts to implement a Whole Child (WSCC) approach by coordinating and evaluating the Wellness Policy implementation.
OFFICE STRATEGIC PRIORITIES
- Improve policies, systems, and strategies that foster safe, healthy, and sustaining learning environments using a WSCC approach.
- Increase the health and physical literacy of all BPS Students through high-quality Health Education, Physical Education and access to comprehensive physical activity opportunities.
- Improve social-emotional learning for all BPS students and staff.
- Improve equitable access to school supports through alignment and coordination of district services, resources, and partnerships.
SCHOOL SUPPORTS
We strive to improve the quality, increase the quantity, and ensure equity of tier-1 health and wellness programs. We provide a range of supports to schools in the six program areas within the office:
