After graduating from college in 2000 I joined AmeriCorps VISTA and worked for ReadBoston, the city of Boston’s literacy initiative. After my year as a VISTA I was hired by ReadBoston to continue coordinating one of the early literacy programs. Through my work there I worked in child care centers throughout the entire city implementing home lending libraries to raise awareness around the importance of reading aloud with young children. After five years with ReadBoston I decided to return to school and received my Masters in Education from Lesley University in Elementary Education and Reading. I began working in first grade as a classroom teacher at the Gardner in the fall of 2007. In 2014 I received my license in Special Education and transitioned into the role of the first grade Learning Specialist. I am proud to be a part of such a special community at GPA and love watching the amazing growth of our first graders year after year.
