Transportation
-
The Boston Public Schools Transportation Department contributes to student achievements by ensuring that our students have a safe and reliable means of transportation to and from school and other school-related activities. Our focus is and will always be on the student's safety and education.
The need for specialized transportation must be directly linked to the student’s disability. In such circumstances, transportation is a related service and the determination to need should be made as a data-driven decision linked to the student’s identified area of disability with respect and consideration of the least restrictive environment for the student. This must occur at each type of team meeting, which includes a team determination of special transportation or renewal of special transportation.
- The team shall determine necessary modifications, special equipment, assistance, need for qualified attendants on vehicles, and any other particular precautions required by the student and shall document such determinations in the student’s IEP. If specialized arrangements can be provided on regular transportation vehicles, the school-district shall make such arrangements. (603. CMR 28.05 (b) (1)
