College, Career Life & Readiness
College Readiness
-
BPS is focused on ensuring every student is ready for college and career success. The Massachusetts College and Career Readiness definition calls for all students to have the academic knowledge, experiences, and intellectual and personal qualities needed to enter into a college program or economically viable career pathway.
In Boston and the surrounding area, there are many people, programs, organizations, and institutions that are ready to help students and families find the best information to make the right choices for college and career. This site serves as an up-to-date collection of resources to help you make the best decisions as you navigate post-secondary access and success.
Success Planning: Preparing for College
To be ready for college, students need academic skills and the right resources to help them navigate the college experience. BPS is working to ensure that BPS students are academically prepared to succeed in college, by expanding the number of AP courses and dual enrollment opportunities available, among other activities.
My Career and Academic Plan (MyCAP)
The Naviance-MyCAP Distance Learning Plan is a core strategy for BPS. MyCAP is a student-centered, multi-year planning process designed to provide students with ongoing opportunities to plan for their academic, personal/social, and career success. Learn more about MyCAP here.
Success Boston
Transitioning to college can be an exciting and overwhelming process for many students. Through coaching and other supports, the Success Boston initiative helps students get ready, get into and get through college, and get connected successfully to careers. To date, more than 6,500 students from 12 graduating classes have been coached through Success Boston, and the number of graduates from each class receiving a college credential has increased by 77% since the initiative launched over a decade ago. More on Success Boston here.
Generation Success
On October 29, 2020, the Boston Opportunity Agenda launched its newest campaign: Generation Success! Generation Success wants each and every student in Boston to graduate high school fully prepared to further their education and achieve success in life as they define it. That’s why we’re working with Boston-area schools, out-of-school programs, parents, nonprofits, and industry groups across the city to prepare students and help them discover and explore the universe of opportunities throughout Boston and our region.
