    At the Mather, we believe that college begins in kindergarten. By the time our students graduate from the Mather, our goal is that each child has acquired the skills, knowledge and habits that will ultimately lead him/her to college. This approach includes:
    • 90 minutes of literacy (daily)
    • 75 minutes of math (daily)
    • weekly participation in physical education, art, music, computers and library
    • nightly homework assignments beginning in kindergarten
    • expectation of 20 minutes of home reading each evening
    • after-school tutoring program
    The language of college preparation is everywhere: At the Mather, each student's classroom is named for the college of his or her teacher. The belief is then reinforced with visual representation of colleges throughout the building, trips to college campuses, and constant reminders by teachers and administrators that each good choice a student makes today brings them a step closer to college.  
     

    Uniform Policy 

    Students should come to school dressed for the important work of education. Our goal as a school community is to ensure that all children reach their full potential academically, socially and emotionally. Our dress code will help us to do that by enabling students to be safe and free from distractions. The Mather Dress Code applies to all students from K-5.

    Allowed:

    • Plain khaki or blue pants for boys and girls – pants must fit properly and not fall below the waist
    • Plain khaki or blue skirt for girls – skirts must be no shorter than one inch above the knee
    • Plain khaki or blue shorts for boys and girls – shorts must be no shorter than one inch above the knee
    • Leggings - may be worn under shorts or skirts
    • Plain collared button down shirt (any color)
    • Plain polo shirt (any color)
    • Plain sweat pants on gym days only
    • Any Mather School logoed clothing (i.e. sweatshirt, polo, t-shirt, sweats)
    • Any college logoed shirt
    • Sneakers, any closed shoes or sandals with a back
    • Plain sweater (no writing, solid color)

    Not allowed:

    • Flip flops or sandals without a back (these cause many injuries during gym and recess)
    • Jeans
    • Hats or any kind of head wrap, except for cultural and/or religious beliefs

    The first time that students violate the dress code, they will receive a phone call home. Repeated violations will result in the loss of school privileges. Students may be asked to turn inappropriate shirts inside-out, or in more serious cases, parents may be required to bring students a change of clothing before that child may return to class.
