  • BPS Superintendent Chang, City Leaders and Patriots Mascot Join Thousands of Students in Walk to School Day

    An estimated 2,000 Boston Public Schools (BPS) students from more than 15 elementary, middle, and K-8 schools took to the streets today as part of Walk to School Day, a biannual event in the district. Today coincides with International Walk to School Day and is part of Safe Routes to School Boston, a city-wide initiative aimed at making walking to school safe, popular, and fun.

  • Mayor Walsh Reads "The Magician's Hat" to Tobin K-8 School Students

    National literacy and mentoring non-profit Read to a Child® announced that Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh read aloud to children in its Lunchtime Reading Program today at the Maurice J. Tobin K-8 School in Roxbury. The mayor was joined by Boston Public Schools (BPS) Superintendent Dr. Tommy Chang, Eastern Bank President Quincy Miller and Read to a Child CEO Paul Lamoureux to highlight the importance of non-profit, corporate and community partnerships to help close the achievement gap and boost literacy skills in greater Boston public schools.

    The Boston Public Schools (BPS) today teamed up with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) and the Boston Celtics “Stay in School” program, sponsored by the Arbella Insurance Foundation, to launch the “I'm In: Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow" campaign aimed at reducing chronic absenteeism, an issue that affects more than 25 percent of BPS students.
