Student Highlights

  • patricia Patricia

    Grade 11

In June, Patricia was accepted to a program run by the organization Grub Street called, Young Adult Writers Summer Teen Fellowship.  This was a competitive program with only 20 slots, which she applied to with 3 pieces of original writing and a personal statement.  She was accepted and spent 3 weeks engaged in writing courses taught by professional writers with other high school students in the Grub Street offices in downtown Boston.
At the end of July, the program concluded with a writing showcase at the Boston Athenaeum, a place where Henry David Thoreau and other famous writers have read their work.  Patrica stood up and read a poem that she wrote called, "An Ode to the Dominican Republic" to a room with about 100 people in the audience.
Be sure to congratulate her on her writing endeavors this summer!

    Grade 11

alex Alex lead and finished his Eagle Scout Project benefiting the American Red Cross and our deployed troops overseas. He dropped off the many boxes at the Hanscom Air force Base. He collected over $1,000 worth of care items (like sunscreen, lip balm, baby wipes, trail mix and other goodies) which troops asked for and they were sent overseas.

We're so proud of him and  the Mary Lyon family can be proud that he is doing so well and giving back to the community at large.
