Boston Celtics Assistant Coach Jerome Allen visits Holmes Elementary School to celebrate boxing program
Coach Jerome Allen with Holmes Elementary School Students
BOSTON — Boston Celtics Assistant Coach Jerome Allen visited the Holmes Elementary School in Dorchester on Thursday, May 18, to support the boxing program offered to students in kindergarten through third grade. He also read a children’s book, Dolphins Don’t Live in a Fishbowl.
It was Coach Allen’s second visit to the Holmes School to encourage and interact with students in the boxing program, which is offered to both boys and girls as a way to have fun and increase social-emotional learning skills.
Coach Allen gave each student a copy of Dolphins Don’t Live in a Fishbowl, written by The Daniels Kids. This book was written by three young Boston-area siblings who wanted more books with more racial diversity. After reading, Jerome and the students had a discussion on the book and the importance of literacy.
After reading the book all the students got their boxing gloves on and began their warm ups, and even Jerome Allen put gloves on and join in on the fun! The event finished with a closing circle and a big farewell and thank you for Jerome!
