If you are registering a child for the Boston Public Schools for the first time, you must visit a Family Resource Center.
If your child is already enrolled in the Boston Public Schools and is in the highest grade of his or her school, your child will receive an application in class to bring home.

Pre-register on-line using BPSExpress
BPSExpress is a great way to save time during the registration process:
- Log on from any computer with an Internet connection.
- Complete your application form and make your school choices on-line in advance.
- Go to any Family Resource Center with the required documents to complete the process.
Required Documents
If you are visiting a Family Resource Center to register for the first time, please bring:
- At least three preprinted proofs of your current address. See the Residency Policy page for details.
- Up-to-date immunization records. The district requires that students must have immunizations that are up-to-date for school entry at the time of registration. See the list of required immunizations for details. Contact BPS Health Services, 617-635-6788, if you have questions.
- Your child’s original birth certificate (with raised seal) or passport, only if you are registering for kindergarten or grade 1.
NOTE: The exam schools have a separate application process and timeline. Visit the Exam Schools page for details.
