Press Release about "Pathways to Excellence"

Superintendent Carol R. Johnson has submitted proposals to the Boston School Committee to ensure high-quality schools, stronger communities, and academic success for all students.

The "Pathways to Excellence" proposals are designed to support the Superintendent's Acceleration Agenda, which includes both academic priorities and strategies to strengthen operations and financial management.

The guiding principles of the Superintendent's plan are to:

  • expand excellence to every child, every classroom, every school;
  • increase access to high-quality programs; and
  • ensure equity throughout the neighborhoods of Boston.

Several driving factors led to the proposals to expand, relocate, reprogram and consolidate school programs and facilities:

  • families' interests and priorities;
  • academic goals and initiatives;
  • enrollment pressures; and
  • economic realities.

Community engagement

Dr. Johnson and the Boston School Committee have developed a process and timeline to engage families, schools and the community in the review of these proposals.
