T3 Initiative: Turnaround Teacher Teams
Are you an experienced, effective teacher that is looking for the next professional challenge? Are you looking for recognition as an excellent teacher? Are you looking to work with a collaborative team of like-minded peers? Are you ready to demonstrate the power of teaching to eliminate the achievement gap? If so, then applying to become a T3 teacher could be the next step in your career.
About the T3 Initiative

The T3 Initiative is a partnership between the Boston Public Schools and Teach Plus to recruit, select, and support effective, experienced teachers to serve in our lowest performing schools. This program was designed by teachers to address the problem of inequitable access to effective teachers in the highest need schools. A key piece of Superintendent Dr. Carol Johnson’s Acceleration Agenda, the five year strategic plan for the Boston Public Schools, is the designation of a group of schools as turnaround schools. These schools will be the focus of intensive support to enable them to significantly raise student outcomes. T3 teachers will play a central role in helping to transform three of these schools (the Blackstone, Orchard Gardens, and the Trotter).
As a T3 teacher, you will have the opportunity to work with a team of effective teachers who are high performing and dedicated to working collaboratively. You will be trained as a cohort in turnaround strategies that have been used by other highly effective teacher teams. You’ll be part of a broader turnaround strategy that supports effective teaching. You’ll be able to take on leadership roles without leaving the classroom. The T3 Initiative offers a path toward mastery in urban teaching.
About Turnaround Schools
In November 2009, as part of the five-year Acceleration Agenda for the Boston Public Schools, Superintendent Carol R. Johnson identified a number of low performing schools in need of significant, rapid change in order to accelerate student achievement. Since that time, the district has undertaken extensive diagnostic and transformational work at these "Turnaround Schools," including recruiting new leaders and putting in place immediate supports for students, including vacation academies and Saturday schools. BPS is currently working in conjunction with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and local stakeholder groups to create turnaround plans for each of these schools, and effective teachers and staff are a critical component of these plans. In order for students to make the necessary rapid progress, BPS will need the most effective teachers and staff who are committed to this turnaround effort and who are eager to help achieve these ambitious goals.
