Science, Literacy, Art, and Math (SLAM) Showcase to highlight afterschool learning

WHO:    More than 200 students from afterschool programs around the city, including programs at 24 Boston Public Schools (list below), State and City officials, families, staff and others.

WHAT:    6th annual SLAM. (Science, Literacy, Art, and Math) Showcase at which students will present what they've learned in afterschool programs this year. Topics include Creative Photo Essays, Urban Ecology in East Boston, Cartooning, West African Dance, The Hovercraft, Got Diversity?, Linking Shakespeare and Art, Seasonal Changes in Flora and Fauna of a Wetland, and more.

WHEN:    Friday, June 6, 2008, 4:45 - 6:30 p.m.

WHERE:    The Blue Wing Exhibit Hall, Museum of Science 1 Science Park, Boston (map)

DETAILS:    More than 200 students will participate in the 6th annual SLAM Showcase, presenting projects and performances highlighting science, literacy, arts, and math. The event is organized by the Triumph Collaborative, a network of afterschool programs coordinated by the Boston Public Schools Department of Extended Learning Time, Afterschool, and Services (DELTAS). Its purpose is to provide comprehensive out-of-school time services that are aligned to local learning standards in order to foster academic success and healthy development in children and youth.
