Mayor Menino Reappoints Susan Naimark to the School Committee
Mayor Thomas M. Menino today reappointed Jamaica Plain resident Susan Naimark to the Boston School Committee. Mayor Menino presided over the swearing-in ceremony in his office and welcomed Ms. Naimark back to the School Committee.
"I am pleased to reappoint Susan Naimark to the Boston School Committee," Mayor Menino said. "Her commitment to strengthening the connection between communities and schools has been an asset to the Committee, and we welcome her continued contribution. Susan brings with her a wide range of talent and expertise, and I look forward to working with her."
Ms. Naimark was first appointed to the School Committee in 1997. She is the executive director of the Development Leadership Network and a founding member of the Massachussetts Coalition for Public Education. Ms. Naimark has also held positions in a number of community organizations, including YouthBuild USA, Urban Edge Housing Corporation, and the Boston Parent Organizing Network
The Boston School Committee is a seven-member board that governs and sets policy for the more than 130 Boston Public Schools. Applications for the position were accepted this fall, and a citizens nominating panel reviewed the applications before recommending candidates to the Mayor. Mayor Menino interviewed each of the finalists before announcing his decision today.
Ms. Naimark's new term expires on January 3, 2005.
