Mayor Menino Appoints School Committee Members
Mayor Thomas M. Menino announced the appointment of Boston School Committee member Meg Campbell and the re-appointment of Claudio Martinez, both to four-year terms.
“The Boston School Committee plays an essential role in our city, working to make sure all of our children learn and thrive,” Mayor Menino said. “I am pleased to appoint two respected leaders who can help raise our schools to the next level.”
Meg Campbell is the Founder and Executive Director of the Codman Academy Charter Public School in Dorchester, which has been recognized by the City and the Commonwealth for its partnerships and noted for the college admittance success of its students. Ms. Campbell, a Dorchester resident, is active in many neighborhood and city-wide initiatives and also writes on education policy.
Claudio Martinez is the Executive Director of the Hyde Square Task Force, where he has developed several programs and grown the award-winning non-profit organization from a $100,000 to a multi-million dollar operation. He was first appointed to the Boston School Committee for the term beginning in 2008. Mr. Martinez, a Jamaica Plain resident, sits on several boards and has been recognized many times for his leadership in the community.
The Boston School Committee is a seven-member board, which governs and sets policy for the Boston Public Schools. Any Boston resident is eligible to apply for a position. A citizens nominating panel accepted nominations this fall before recommending candidates to Mayor Menino earlier in December. Mayor Menino interviewed the finalists before making his selection.
