Israeli collage artist Hanoch Piven visits Emerson Elementary
BOSTON – Students at the Emerson Elementary School in Roxbury participated in a special art class recently, when renowned Israeli artist Hanoch Piven visited the school to conduct a hands-on workshop. Mr. Piven showed the students how to create portraits and other three-dimensional works using everyday household and classroom objects.
Mr. Piven’s colorful and witty collage portraits have appeared throughout the last 14 years on both sides of the Atlantic: in most major American magazines and newspapers such as Time, Newsweek, The New Yorker and in many European publications from The London Times to the Swiss Die WeltWoche. Mr. Piven’s work has received many awards of excellence from various design and illustration organizations in the United States, most notably a Gold Medal from The Society of Illustrators of NY and a Silver Medal from the Society of Publication Designers.
Mr. Piven has published five children books in America, most notably What Presidents are Made of, selected by Time Magazine as one of the ten best children’s books of 2004. Since 1999, Piven has been conducting what he calls “Drawing with Objects” workshops for children and adults in many countries.
