Holiday celebrations, community service projects, pen pals, student performances all add up to a busy two days in the Boston Public Schools. Schools across the city are hosting events on Thursday and Friday providing opportunities to see students in a variety of activities as they continue their learning, prepare for the holiday season and show off their musical talents.

- Tobin K - 8 School launches new pen pal program
The Tobin K - 8 School is launching a Distinguished Scholars Mentoring Program. The program pairs middle school students with notable community leaders as pen pals. The community leaders include representatives from the Governor's Office, Mayor's Office, Superintendent's Office, elected officials and many others. The school is hosting an event to kick off the program with the 85 participating students and many of their pen pals.
10:00 am: Maurice Tobin K - 8 School, 40 Smith St., Roxbury - Perry School "Holiday Rock" Show
The students of the Perry K-8 School will put on "A Very Perry Holiday Rock" show for their families and neighbors. Mayor Menino and Superintendent Carol Johnson will attend.
10:30 am: Oliver H. Perry K-8 School, 745 East Seventh Street, South Boston - Friday, December 14
- Eliot K - 8 School Community Service Day
Eliot School students get in the holiday spirit with projects to help their friends and neighbors. Volunteers from Bain Company will join the students as they work on several community service projects including mural painting and making blankets for the homeless.
10:00 am: John Eliot K - 8 School, 16 Charter Street, North End - Gardner Elementary School students enjoy environmental concert event
Students from the Gardner School will be treated to a concert from country singer Cooper Boone as part of his "Small Change Big Planet" tour, which encourages students to make a small change in their lives that can make a big impact on the environment. The Gardner was selected as a tour stop after Science Specialist and teacher Dean Martin was recently selected for the Secretary's Award for Excellence in Environmental Education by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs for his work on the school's Outdoor Classroom.
10:15 am: Thomas Gardner Elementary School, 30 Athol Street, Allston - Holmes Elementary School student musical performances
The Holmes Elementary School is hosting a special event entitled "The Gathering" featuring musical performances by students as the school welcomes in their families and community partners.
5:30 pm: Oliver W. Holmes Elementary School, 40 School Street, Dorchester
