Student athletes will compete in the tournament with pink hockey sticks in honor of breast cancer research. A player from each team will receive a $200 scholarship. Prior to the opening game on December 28, the East Boston High School JROTC Color Guard will present the colors.

East Boston High School's hockey coach, Robert Anthony, founded the tournament last year as a benefit for the Cross Roads Family Shelter in East Boston. To honor the school's charitable work, the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) presented East Boston High School with the first Community Service Award. This year, the school chose to donate funds raised to the BMC Breast Cancer Research Center as a tribute to Mr. Anthony's wife Jacki, who is a breast cancer survivor.
