Boston School Committee re-elects Officers
The Boston School Committee today re-elected Elizabeth Reilinger, Ph.D., and Alfreda J. Harris as Chair and Vice-Chair, respectively, for the year 2001.
Dr. Reilinger was first appointed to the Committee by Mayor Thomas M. Menino on January 3, 1994 and has served as Chair of the Committee for the past three years. A resident of the Back Bay, Dr. Reilinger is President and Chief Executive Officer of Crittenton Hastings House. She is a former Associate Dean of Boston University and former faculty at Boston University, Cornell University and Ithaca College. She also is a national consultant on non-profit management and Health and Human Service policies and systems.
Ms. Harris has served on the School Committee since September 8, 1993, including the past two years as Vice-Chair. A resident of Roslindale, Ms. Harris is a former Deputy Commissioner of the Boston Parks and Recreation Department and a founder and former Administrative Coordinator of the Shelburne Recreation Center. She has received numerous awards, including the Henry L. Shattuck Public Service Award from the Boston Municipal Research Bureau and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Service Award from Boston College.
The Boston School Committee is a seven-member board which governs and sets policy for the more than 130 Boston Public Schools. The Committee elects its officers and adopts a calendar of meetings (attached) on the first Monday of every year.
