ALL BOSTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS CLOSED DECEMBER 14, 2007
Superintendent Carol R. Johnson announced tonight that all Boston Public Schools will be closed on Friday, December 14.
Dr. Johnson explained that some students and staff did not return home until late last night. Mayor Menino has instructed all Boston Centers for Youth and Families community centers to open early tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. so that families have a safe place to bring their children.
"I want to apologize to all Boston Public Schools families and staff for the significant delays created by the snowstorm," she said in a statement to all BPS families and staff. "The safety of our students remained our top priority throughout the day. I'm very grateful to principals, teachers and other staff who remained in their schools well after the usual dismissal time to supervise students and ensure their safety until they were picked up."
Dr. Johnson added that BPS and City crews would be working throughout the night to remove snow and ice from school stairways, sidewalks and parking lots, but she was concerned that not all ice and snow could be removed in time for a safe school opening tomorrow. The Superintendent said that all central offices, including Family Resource Centers, would be open for business tomorrow.
