BPS Career and New Employee Center

Welcome to the Boston Public Schools!

Dear New Employee,

Welcome to the Boston Public Schools! The Boston Public Schools is a large district with 56,000 students, 144 schools and 4,500 teachers. It is widely recognized as one of the top-performing urban school districts in America, and has achieved that distinction because of the hard work of students, teachers, principals, administrators, families, and community partners.

We are pleased that you are joining us in our efforts to ensure that all of Boston Public Schools' students receive a quality educational experience that prepares them for meaningful opportunities beyond high school. In Boston, our priority is to ensure that all children, at all grade levels, and from all neighborhoods have equal access to quality schools and can reach higher standards of academic proficiency. That work is supported by a number of exciting initiatives, including creating smaller high schools, opening an Office of Family and Community Engagement, recruiting top-notch teachers and principals, and expanding early-childhood education.

Above all, the most important belief that underlies our work in Boston is that all students can achieve high standards. The support required by students may differ, but the end goal of reaching proficiency and high levels of achievement is the same. We look forward to having you join us to carry out this work.

As you begin your first year of working in the Boston Public Schools, the School Committee wishes you a year filled with opportunities, excitement and the profound reward of improving teaching and learning for all students.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Reilinger, Ph.D. Chair, Boston School Committee
